Buried Cabra Dominican Convent Advertiser Friday 7 November 1930 GOLDEN JUBILEE OF DOMINICAN NUN The rare achievement of having complicated sixty years of service as a professed num and teacher in the Dominican Order, is he record of Mother Mary Catherine, of Dominican Convent. Cabra. whose golden jubilee was celebrated on Wednesday at the Mother House of the Order at Clarence Park. Mother Catherine, entered the Dominican Order in Ireland in 1838, and came out to South Australia with the second band of Dominican Sisters in 1874. A capable administrator and keen business woman, she has been at varying periods head of the Community. She has at all times been an ardent and enthusiastic educationist and the work of few secular teachers can bear any comparison to that achieved by her in her fifty years of labour for the church and the State. In connection with Wednesday's celebrations there was high mass, the chapel being croweded with priests in the sanctuary and old scholars and friends in the body of the church. The Vicar-General Monsignor Hourigan presided. In the eveing past scholars filled the Assembly Hall, where Mrs. Egan on behalf of the Old Scholars Association made a presentation of a wallet of notes. Mother Catherine feelingly responded. Many congratulatory messages were received from all over the State and abroad including a special blessing from the Pope. Advertiser Saturday 8 March 1947 page 8 Dominican Convent School at Mount Lofty Bythorne, Mount Lofty, recently purchased by the Dominican Convent Sisters of Cabra, would be used for a primary day school and a juniorate boarding school, said the Mother Superior of the Dominican Convent, Cabra, yesterday.
