The provincial superior of the Loreto Nuns (Mother Mary Gonzaga Barry), accompanied by Mother Boniface (superior of the Norwood foundation), and Mother
Bertrand and Sister Mary Antonia, who are proceeding to Western Australia, arrived by the Melbourne express recently (says the Southern Cross). They are the
guests of the Sisters of Mercy at the Angas street Convent. Mother Boniface will have charge of the high school for girls, to be opened shortly at Norwood, and when the
premises are ready four other nuns will be sent from Ballarat to assist her in the work. Mother Mary Gonzaga and Mother Boniface haye come over in advance to
superintend the arrangemeats for opening the new school. When the coming of the Loreto nuns was first announced Mother Clare, the superior of St. Mary's Convent,
Angas-street, wrote to Mother Mary Gonzaga at Ballarat welcoming the new order to South Australia, and offering them the hospitality of the convent until their own
premises were ready for occupation. This kind offer was gladly accepted, and Mother Mary Gonzaga and Mother Boniface will be the guests ot the nuns at Angas-street until the house secured for them ac Norwood has been prepared for their residence.

A peculiar sorrow attaches to the first visit of the angel of death to a long-united family. This was felt in all its intensity by the community at Norwood, as it is the first death that that has taken place there since the convent was founded from Ballarat in January, 1905. The deceased nun was a native of Ararat, Victoria. She entered the novitiate at Mary's Mount. Ballarat, in 1903, and was privileged to be one of those who received the habit of Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the hands of the Mother-General, who came from Ireland that year to honor the celebration for the golden jubilee of the much loved provincial, Mother Gonzaga Barry. The artistic- talent of the young novice helped not a little in the decorations which made Mary's Mount such a place of beauty during the festivities. After profession M. M. Sebastian labored in the educational work of the institute at Loreto Convent, Hamilton, until she returned a couple of years ugo to the Alma Mater. Everywhere her bright, kind, sunny disposition made her a host of friends. |

Mother Mary Emilian McGrath, Mother Superior of Loreto Convent, Marryatville. died suddenly yesterday at the age of 76. Born in Thurliss, County Tipperary, Ireland, she was educated at Loreto Abbey, Rotbfornham, Dublin. She came to Australia in 1878 and taught in every State in the Commonwealth, except Queensland. She was Mother Superior of Perth, for nine years, at Portland, Victoria, and in Adelaide for two periods. A lady of high culture, she was most highly esteemed by all the nuns associated with her. On account of the death of the Mother Superior the annual celebrations conducted by the students, including sports and speech days, and concert, have been cancelled. | Sister Mary John MOORE
