Sister Mary Monica
The death of Sister Mary Monica, which occurred at the Convent of the Good Shepherd, Abbotsford, yesterday, removes from social welfare work in Melbourne a
remarkable personality and a most highly esteemed worker. Sister Mary Monica, who was aged 82 years, was bom In Liverpool, and came out to Australia with her
parents. Because of family ties she did not enter the religious life until rather later than is usual, and it was probably the experience of the world that she gained
through her work os a school teacher and a business woman that gave her that peculiar understanding of and sympathy with human nature which won for her a reputation unique among social workers.
As a probation officer Sister Mary Monica was highly esteemed by everyone associated with the City Court, which she attended every day, and her advice on problem cases among women and girls was sought frequently by magistrates and others.
For some time Sister Mary Monica's health has been falling, and she was compelled to relinquish much of her work.
